The Poweshiek Skipperling (Oarisma poweshiek) is a tiny, grassland butterfly with soft brown wings accented by orange and pale silvery streaks. Once common across Midwestern prairies, it is now critically endangered, surviving only in a few remaining native habitats. Quiet and unassuming, this little butterfly is most often seen darting low among prairie grasses and wildflowers in midsummer.
